Pogonip Clubhouse

We came across this abandoned clubhouse while hiking in the Pogonip city park in Santa Cruz, CA. Dates and facts contradict each other a bit, but here's what I culled from several sources:

History

Built in 1911 as the Casa del Rey Golf and Country Clubhouse, closed in 1930. Reopened in 1935 as the Pogonip Polo Club.
In 1936, allowed controversial co-ed polo matches and began a tradition of fostering women's polo.
The pool was built in 1936 with proceeds from a film shot there. At some point (perhaps 1986) the pool was filled in with dirt. (The outlines are still visible - I didn't get a picture of it though)
Closed during WWII, but used briefly as a rehabilitation area for serviceman. Reopened in 1948 with non-equestrian sports like bicycle polo and tennis, as well hosting social events.
In 1986 the clubhouse was condemned, but club members expressed interest in restoring it. This effort never took place, most likely from lack of funds and also further damage from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
Pogonip's 416 acres became city property in 1989, with the clubhouse leased back to the club under the condition that they keep it in repair. The club disbanded in 1993 after a failed attempt to raise funds to restore the clubhouse to landmark status. In 2010 the lease ends and the clubhouse will revert to city property.

The clubhouse provided exterior shots of Grandpa's house in the film The Lost Boys and is believed to have been used in at least 2 other movies.
Pogonip is named for a nearby creek and is a Native American word meaning "icy fog." But club members used to say it came from "po" for polo, "go" for golf, and a "nip" at the clubhouse bar before dinner.

Photos

None of the older pictures are dated. The top porch railing is the same as today except for the middle section that has straight slats and a protruding roof. At some point the railing was rebuilt in the same style across the entire length.

The picture on the right isn't mine. Unclear when it was taken, but I'm guessing before 2005 since the top porch isn't sagging yet, the vegetation is still healthy and there is no fence.

The Hunter Trial course pictured was built in 1936, but this picture could be later. The palm tree in the right corner could be the same one that's still there today.

The pond is supposed to have been a fire protection. Not sure when it was added, but it's long gone.

When the clubhouse reopened in 1948 the horses were gone and bicycle polo was a novelty.

These lovely lasses are hanging out in the "cabana" which could just be the closed-in porch.

The tennis courts have given over to vegetation. Long view with the clubhouse on the right.
