The lava flow that destroyed Kalapana also buried Kaimu Beach. Thickly bordered with palm trees, it was considered the most beautiful black sand beach on all the islands. A new black sand beach appeared after the lava flows, and locals plant palm seedlings in the hopes of recreating their beloved beach.
