Friend Timothy Weaver and Vaughan, taken in the side yard of the same house.
"I was thinking about Eddie and Marie Weaver just last night. I have a very distinct memory of 31 December 1959. Just before midnight I was standing outside a friends home on a small farm in Kenya and felt some pickup the hair above my ear and drop the hair again. Then there was a popping sound. Someone was firing a long range rifle at us but the bullet seemed to have beaten the sound. It was the first time I was ever shot at and so I tend to remember the event every New Year Eve. But that got me thinking about all the people I knew in those days and all the troubles that were associated with life in Africa in the 1950's, which always brings back memories of the Weavers and the great sacrifice they made to help the pygmies."
