The Pinakothek
der Moderne was designed to need few artificial lights during the day.
Though very impressive inside, the exterior of the museum
was unremarkable. 
Across the street sat
the Alte Pinakothek, which holds a large collections of early European paintings.
(Also nearby is the and the Neue Pinakothek, featuring 19th and early 20th
century European art.)
