Bobsleds pass a few feet from your head at a dizzying 85 miles per hour. Crowds of people line the track, and gather thickly at the curves. A rumble, a strain of the crowd leaning in, a blur of color and the bobsleigh is gone. There were over 20 teams, each running twice, so there were plenty of chances to see, hear and feel the bobsled experience. It's not obvious on TV, but the track starts high up on hills, then snakes down to the finish line. We hiked up to see the sleds being pushed, then worked our way down to catch the final results. Although the US teams did not capture any medals in the 2-man, they did make a respectable showing, coming in 4th, only .03 seconds too slow. |
